A Quilters Cache!

Well, technically this is not part of the cache, but with exciting events today in my household, a bit of a celebration is in order!! George, (my other half) found out today he won a major award with the company he works for. The prize consists of Champagne, a trophy and also a monetary amount. With the idea of heading back to America next year, for Quilt Festival in Houston among other things, todays events mean we can book our airfares as soon as the dates become available. Houston 2013- here we come!

I happened to see this really awesome trolley in an Ikea catalogue. I thought it would serve my purposes in studio 2, and save my legs if I had all my quilty things at the ready, right next to me. I can tell you, it really works well. Isn't the colour beautiful?? I'll give you an up close look at what's in it. I guess it's a bit like looking in a womans handbag, only I think it's way more interesting. More interesting than my handbag anyway.

Level 1: This level is stuff I reach for pretty often. Pins, a bucket load of pencils and pens, adding machine paper, bobbin case containers and other bits and pieces. I love my fuzzy lint brush, which is great for picking up thread and fluff off the quilt top after you've had to unpick. Another fabulous item from Ikea, and very cheap too!

Level 2: Painters tape, more marking pens, water bottle, chalk, additional different hopping feet and spare bobbins plus more. By no means are all my bobbins stored here. The majority live near the turbo bobbin winder in the corner. They don't call it a turbo bobbin winder for nothing, it goes like a rocket when you're winding a bobbin I can tell you!!!

Level 3: Progressively as we have gone down the levels, the items have become less exciting, but still very important to the whole set up. This is the level that partially keeps the machine humming along nicely. WD40, machine oil, rubbing alcohol, cotton buds, soft cloths, paper towel. What you don't see, which doesn't really fit on the trolley is the tool box. Yep, I've never been interested in having my own tool box until I got the machine this year. I have to say, it's pretty cool.

Yes, I have been doing a bit of work too at the machine this week. Ash decided she wanted to make a 1600 quilt. I swear, I will never make one! The reason being, I couldn't imagine the concept of a 1600 quilt, until I saw the long strip in my dining/kitchen/lounge room as she started sewing it together. It went on forever!! What is funny in all this is, she decided to make herself another one, but forgot to stop sewing and it became a 3200 quilt!!!! If your wondering about the number, that's how many inches it measures when you have sewn all the pieces together for that first strip. It goes on forever, and seems to take forever to sew it. Anyway, this one is for a friend of hers. I hope to have it off the frame tomorrow so will post an overall photo of it then. That's it for me for this one, so until next time, happy quilting.-Julie.
