A Quilters dream, no more binding!

It's fair to say, that the majority of quilters have a certain aspect of the whole creative process in quilt making, that they like less than the quilting. And usually, it's the binding. With the binding being the aspect of the quilt that actually finishes the whole project, why do many quilters falter when they get to this point?? I'm guessing, and this is from my own personal perspective, it's monotonous and boring. I don't hate it, but if I had the choice, I'd rather quilt than bind. A happy solution to this though is, if you can find someone that will bind for you. Brooke has only recently taken on the title of my chief binder. Getting a few pointers from Ashleigh on technique, who I might add is a way better binder than I am, Brooke appears to have the fastly developing skills for excellent binding also. This is her very first practise piece. Not bad, eh? With the binding department taken care of, it leaves me more time to quilt, quilt, quilt. Maybe now I might get a few of my own quilts finally finished. The only down side is, I will have to do my own binding for any quilts I enter in shows. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
The other thing to mention is, I have just created another blog. It's titled, The Little French Cupboard. The reason for doing this is because this blog, Heritage Keepsakes, is being streamlined to focus mainly on quilts and quilt related items. I've mulled this idea over for some months now and thought it might be a good time to do it. The Little French Cupboard, will cover pretty much everything else. From holidays to daily goings on and everything in between. If you see a brief mention of something with no blog dedicated to it, chances are you'll find it in detail on the other blog. Hopefully, I will be able to keep up with the two blogs!
Until next time, happy quilting-Julie.

  1. I must admit I find binding a chore, but I did a baby quilt today and loved it, but I must admit it was the music that kept me going.

    1. I like your idea of music on while binding. I will try that the next time I have to bind. I'm sure it will make the whole process go quicker.

  2. I'm the same, the binding process is so boring and I end up rushing the job and it looks awful. I'll have to find someone to do it for me to!

  3. Julie, look forward to your new blog. Loved you photos of NZ. Binding I find quite soothing. I hate putting hanging sleeves on! Regards,

    1. Thanks Judi, just still in the process of getting the other blog up and running. I tend to avoid hanging sleeves on quilts, so it's probably in my too hard basket too. Might have to teach Brooke about them too!
